Organising Confusion Process - Confused at Start into Organised Process

Let me get straight to the point. The process of taking an idea and turning it into a product can be a confusing and daunting prospect. There are many steps and it’s not always clear where the best place to start is.

But this is my bread and butter, and over the years I have developed an instinct on how to break down the product development process into bite size chunks. I have a particular skill for seeing the most efficient path and implications of various choices along the way. So let me help you.

Give your idea the Best Start

What I provide with the ‘Design Start’ service, is access to the knowledge at the very beginning of your design journey.

Design Start Service

£ 200 Fixed Fee
  • Half Day Meeting
  • Clarity on next steps
  • Avoid pitfalls

In that meeting we will discuss your idea in the specific detail required to turn it into a product.

Details such as

  • What is your idea?
  • What are your product ambitions (sale cost, volumes, quality etc.)
  • What are your future brand ambitions?
  • What is your timeframes and personal availability for the process?
  • How will you be funding this project?

From the above information, I will be able to provide you

  • An idea, of the process that will take your idea, from concept to a market ready product. Along with how this process could be broken down into more palatable stages.
  • I can highlight key decisions you might need to make early in the process. These could have large implications for your product, which I can discuss with you. Making educated choices early on, can ensure you get the best possible product and a more efficient design process.
  • A sense of the costs involved and the various funding options. The price of product development is always hard to predict accurately. But I can give you a rough idea and suggest what you can do to keep the process as streamlined as possible.
  • How to protect your idea. Many want to Patent their idea as quickly as possible, but this is rarely the best approach. I can suggest the best option based on my experience and the particulars of your product.
  • What the designer will need from you and how much of your time this might require.
  • Potential design partners to work with.
    • To provide you with the best value from this ‘Design Start’ service, it’s best I work under the assumption that my role is as an advisor, rather than your future design partner. As such I will be completely honest (I don’t know any other way) and make recommendations for other companies you can work with based on my extensive Scottish network of designers. Different consultancies have different strengths, and I can make recommendations to be suit your needs. I will of course also offer my services, though I will take zero offence if you choose to go elsewhere. I may even recommend you do, if I think another company would be a better fit.

What I aim to provide for you is a sense of where to start and how that process might work. I can help you avoid potential pitfalls and help you keep your design on track.

If you feel it would be of value, then I can continue to support you as an advisor, with whoever you decide to partner with.
